New Vision --- Uganda's only independent newspaper?

Two weeks ago, Aug. 15, the Uganda Police issued an order to the media to stop reporting on the matter of the suspects arrested in connection with the July 11, 2010 bomb blasts in the Ugandan capital Kampala, in which 76 people died.

The New Vision, the government newspaper was bold enough to stand up and defiantly insist that it would challenge the police's order not to discuss the fate of the self-confessed July 11 suspects.

This is a surprising development in Ugandan journalism. This is not the New Vision most people expected to be reading.
