I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know much I (and quite a few other people) appreciate the super job you are doing on reporting these mysterious deaths in high places. Your young paper has proven to be a giant in a crowd of midgets that Uganda's collective media have become lately. Please keep up this very important job of informing the public, even as the so-called mainstream media in Uganda has chosen to become catatonic at this crucial juncture.

Thank you very much for your…..selfless service in providing this newspaper free, for all the effort you expend in doing your amazing research [and] the risks you expose yourself to. If this is not patriotism then I need some lessons on the subject.

"I have always admired you for your bravery reporting of events since your time with the Daily Monitor. It takes a brave man to report the way you reported on both deaths of Bryn Bukenya and Gen. James Kazini amidst purging of journalists by the state!

Like all the previous suspicious murders in the past, the investigations will be bundled up and that will be the end. After all the Police spokesperson, Ms. [Judith] Nabakooba was quoted saying that police will not extend its investigations beyond the current suspect, Ms Lydia Adruwu on the issue of murder.

One smells a rat when the police changes the charge sheet from murder to manslaughter, a soft landing for the woman. What are they trying to cover up and under whose influence? The only prayer is that they don't close your web site or arrest you."

Dear Editor,

I would like to response to Lois Nabirye's opinions on the MTV Africa Awards.

Personally I was happy D'Banj was voted Artiste of the Year. The fact that he hails form Nigeria is irrelevant. He has great talent. Let us not forget the Awards are for the whole of Africa and not based on whether or not 1% of the Ugandan population knows the singer or not.

Let our singers from the rest of Africa pull up their socks and remember strategy helps

Press  Briefs

Finally, the media reports skepticism over Kazini murder

Newspaper review

NTV, the television station owned by the Nation Media Group in Nairobi, Kenya, has the best lighting and tonal colour feel of all the Kampala TV stations.

Its news anchors are formally and stylishly dressed and come across as cordial and civil.

What NTV lacks, however, is content. That is to say, they have news that is not news, very much like their cousin the Daily Nation newspaper of Nairobi, which has good form, good print quality and colour separation, good font type and general layout and good distribution and circulation by East African standards....

Opinion

Most frequently asked question: “Are you safe?”

The mood of fear has once again reasserted itself in Ugandan society.

When I wrote the article explaining that the 1994 Rwandan genocide was masterminded by the RPF I got many SMS from frightened people
