Can you believe [President] Museveni and his henchman [Gen. David] Tinyefuza sent security agents to Boston [in the United States].
They went to the police and filed a complaint to the police that Ugandans in Boston are saying bad things about [the] Uganda government. The police asked them where they the agents are from, and they said Uganda.
The police told them to go away, as that's freedom of speech. There are so many individuals from other countries, like Iran, China opposed to their governments in the U.S. too. Even the Tea Party Republicans are opposed to [President] Obama policies.
Mr. Editor, that tells you what kind of leaders we have in Uganda, and how stupid our security people are.
Brian Muhwezi -------------------------------------- Flashback to 1986: When Museveni did not want to be called "His Excellency"
Here is another one. Some time after the NRA/NRM take over, the Red Cross, or some other NGO, hosted a function in the Makerere University's Faculty of Law compound.
The President of Uganda gracefully attended. The then Minister of education, Hon. [Jehoash] Mayanja Nkangi, welcoming the President, addressed him as "Your Ecxellency'
This drew a loud murmur from the audience. You see, Mr. Museveni had earlier on prohibited people from "insulting him". thus. Hon. Nkangi looked, embarrassed, in the direction of the President and pleaded, "But he is His Excellency".
But prior to the Minister's speech, an elderly gentleman named Kavuma, whom I believe was the chairman of the said host organisation, had in his welcoming comments, praised the NRM/NRA government for bringing peace to the country, saying, "Thank you for not killing us!"
Reacting to these words, the President angrily said that it was impertinent to thank the NRA for not killing the people of Uganda because they were not supposed to be killed in the first place, that the army was duty bound to protect them!
He was very serious when saying this and his listeners must have taken him for his word. That was 24 years ago! Times change, my friends
J. Muhingana jesmu@hotmail.com ------------------------------- Further facts about Idi Amin and inaccuracies by the Ugandan media
Idi Amin Dada told us at the dinner table Al-Safa Jeddah in the 1980s that even the Police Commander then sent a [congratulations] to his Corporal Punishment Assistant (Original Kiboko Squad) on the birth of a son which was placed on the Uganda Police Notice Board...these are the type of data that might be sitting in some archive gathering dust....or burnt .
I wonder if the meteorologist office in Entebbe might have records on that oral account by [my] grandma on the hailstone shower in Kampala in the month of May 1928?
I recall the day I recorded the CNN interview in 2007 there was a heavy hailstone shower that Oscar Night in Kashari, Kingdom of Ankole, which made the front pages of the New Vision. So these are events that people remember, like all the banana plantain crops being destroyed that day and even rusty iron roofs flying off that day in 2007.
Funny too I came across a picture of the late Queen mother of GB [Great Britain], mother to QEII [Queen Elizabeth II] and the late Princess Margaret, on the latest Makerere University calender 2010.
Alas they claim it to be QEII herself.....She QEII was a beauty then in the 1950s when she came to open Owens Fall Dam yet the lady in the picture who paid a visit to Makerere University is actually her biological mother about the same age as the present QEII today or a decade younger so they (University officials) confuse her mother's face then with QEII's face in the present 2010.
Alas, attention to detail is highly lacking amongst journalists in today's 21st century of Copy, Cut and Paste culture.
