25 Arrested at Kabaka’s Coronation Celebrations

Police arrested 25 people during the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II 20th coronation celebrations that were held on Saturday at Lubiri grounds in Mengo.

Addressing journalists at the Central police station Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Ibin Ssenkumbi said cases involved snatching of hand bags, phones, using drugs like marijuana and supplying fake currencies among others.

He adds that the arrested have on Monday appeared before the Mwanga 2 court and have been charged accordingly.

Ssenkumbi notes that the reported fatal incident was when one man was beaten to death and another taken to Mulago hospital in critical condition, as they tried to snatch a woman’s hand bag in a dark corner as she was coming from the celebrations at night.

“We call upon the public not to walk alone in darkness and deserted roads, because normally after big event, most criminals wait in dark corners for those to steal from,” said Ssenkumbi. The arrested have on Monday appeared before the Mwanga 2 court and have been charged accordingly.
