Opposition members of Parliament stormed out of house this yesterday due to the appointment of General Aronda Nyakairima saying they cannot be part to that unconstitutional approval.
This followed after the approval of Gen. Aronda as Internal Affairs minister where a thirteen committee members, all from the ruling NRM party, voted in favour of Gen Nyakairima taking up the position when the issue was put to vote, according to sources that attended the meeting. Six members voted against his approval while one member, Hon. Kasaija Stephen Kagwera (Burahya, NRM), abstained.
The walk-out followed a refusal by Ms Kadaga to allow Ms Cecilia Ogwal’s (Dokolo Woman, FDC) request for a debate.
Ms Kadaga said a report will be presented on the floor of the House, prompting the opposition MPs to abandon the chamber.
Sources who attended the stormy morning meeting chaired by Ms Kadaga, revealed that 13 members supported the approval, six were against, while one MP abstained from voting.
