Otafiire – Judges Should be Non-Partisan

The Minister of Justice and constitutional Affairs Kahinda Otafiire has asked Judges to strive to restore judicial credibility among the public and uphold the rule of law in the country.

Opening this year’s annual magistrate’s conference in Mukono Gen. Kahinda Otafiire said history has shown that failure to have fair hearing and trust in the judiciary, always results into chaos from the unsatisfied members of the public.

He cautioned judges to be non partisan citing an example of the country´s history of the 5-year NRA guerilla war, were many other chaotic situations have resulted from lack of fairness and confidence in the judiciary.

These concerns follow public criticism of some judicial officers for allegedly taking sides and failing to be fair in judgments. Corruption is the other challenge that the judiciary must fight, as it is reportedly taking its toll.
