One person has been confirmed dead and scores injured in an accident, involving a Kampala bound Global Bus and a Isuzu Truck this morning. The accident occurred near River Katonga, along the Kampala-Masaka highway.
The bus registration number No. UBB 195 N reportedly rammed into a sand truck number UAY O69N while attempting to overtake two vehicles from a sharp corner, according to Isaac Mukooza, a motorist and one of the eyewitnesses.
The injured have since been rushed to Nkozi Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment. The deceased is yet to be identified.
The acting Katonga Regional Police Spokesperson Joseph Tulya says a number of motorist’s disregard traffic guidelines along the highway resulting into accidents.
Recently, police in Katonga Region working alongside UNRA carried out an on-spot training for motorists in several blackspots along Kampala-Masaka highway to assess whether they know how to respond to different situations and signage on the road.
According to the recently released police report, over 3,000 people lost their lives in the 12,805 accidents recorded in 2018. At least 5,245 cases were recorded in the Kampala metropolitan area covering the districts of Wakiso, Mukono, Kampala and Mpigi.
