Thirty-one new cases of Coronavirus disease have been recorded in the country, bringing Uganda’s count to 253. These were part of 1,116 samples tested on Tuesday, May 26, at the border points and the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI).
23 of the reported 31 cases are Ugandan truck drivers who came in from different Points of Entry while 8 other cases are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers.
According to health minister Dr. Ruth Aceng, all the community cases came into contact with positive truck drivers. At the time of testing, the eight cases were under quarantine.
“20 positive foreign truck drivers (16 Tanzanians and 4 Kenyans) were handed over to their country of origin,” she added.
Elsewhere, the number of COVID-19 patients in Kenya has increased from 1,286 reported on Monday, May 25, to 1,348 after 62 more people tested positive for coronavirus
Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Aman said the new cases were drawn from Nairobi (23), Mombasa (16), Kwale (eight), Kiambu (six), Kajiado (six) and Kitui (three).
