The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) 2013 marathon gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich has asked government to increase on the number of representatives sent to represent Uganda to International games.
Kiprotich won the medal on Saturday in 2 hours 09 minutes and 1 second.The gold medalist touched down at Entebbe International Airport at 1:07pm and hosted at a Dinner at Entebbe State house.
Speaking at the welcome dinner hosted by President Yoweri Museveni at Entebbe State house Kiprotich said countries with whom Uganda participated with at the 2013 Moscow Marathon in Russia had at least 50 participants and they ended up winning at least two gold medals.
“Uganda should have at least 200 participants to represent the country in International games because in increases the number of chances for more gold medals”. Why is Uganda sending a few representatives at these games yet our population is over 40 million people” said Kiprotich.
This is Kiptrotich’s second gold in less than two years following his record breaking win in the 2012 London Olympics men’s marathon where he bagged a gold medal, the country’s first in four decades.
