After National Council of Sports authorities realized what little is available in form government funding of all 53 sports federations and associations in Uganda, the council has decided to renovate and let its office space at MTN Arena, Lugogo. NCS’s space is estimated at a whooping 65 million shillings annually.
NCS general secretary Nicolas Mulamagi said the extra income will help the council supplement its big budget besides government’s meagre allocations to the council’s activities. NCS needed 50.6 billion shillings but got 3.2 billion this financial year.
“This is extra income and it will cover us big. As time goes on we shall have actually more income from these office spaces. It is a shame for a sports federation or association to come to National Council of Sports for assistance mainly financially and we (NCS) start to give excuses like we don’t have that money but we are now trying to escape from such excuses. I think that is when even some associations and federations will start to respect us as head of all sports governing bodies in the country,” said Mulamagi.
State minister for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi applauded NCS and advised the likes of Mandela National Stadium and Nakivubo boards to follow suit to avoid closure by NCSUganda Revenue Authority due to tax arrears because before anything this is also source of income.
“I appeal to Nakivubo and the likes to start this way of creating other ways of earning. This will help in facilitating tax payments instead of waiting for URA to close down the stadium something that halts many activities,” said Bakkabulindi during the office opening in Lugogo.
